Initially, Edith Shain was reluctant to identify herself as the
nurse being surprised with a sailor's smooch in New York's
Times Square on August 14th, 1945 (V-J Day). In the years
leading up to her death this week at the age of 91, Shain
embraced her accidental celebrity, hoping to use it as a
platform to perpetuate the memory of that day of victory, and
honor those whose service and sacrifice made it possible.

tribute to Edith Shain.
